Gallery On The Streets (GOTS) is a by the curator Gerben Willers initiated conceptual exhibition programme. Works showed by GOTS aren’t destined to hang on a wall in a gallery, but on the streets. Therefore, artists are asked to work within certain restrictions.
GOTS invites artists to make work on a4 formatted sheets. The work made for GOTS can be send to Groningen by post (either electronic or traditional) and will be shown on the streets of Groningen by pasting it on walls, billboards etc.
Important to notice is that the works that are shown aren’t unique. After they have been sent to Groningen, they will be copied for several times to spread through the whole town. So the works shown are black-and white and most of the time copied for about one hundred times.
The works on the streets will be photographed and shown on the webpage of GOTS. GOTS thinks that internet can function as a gallery as good as the street or a space with four white walls. A lot of the works made for GOTS are available to download.
In the last year diverse artists have cooperated with the exhibition programme, from starting to more arrived, from conceptual oriented to narrative working artists. The hope is there to maintain this programme.
